Karen and Gordon didn't stay long at the table--the DJ started playing some of the music that they like and they ran out on the floor. Those two are major goofballs.

Paul was looking kind of upset, so I asked him what was wrong. "You were staring over at David's table for most of the time out there, and then you dragged me over here so suddenly." he said.

I wasn't following him. "And?"

"And I thought you said that you and he were through, that you weren't still interested in him. Now you're spending more of your time stalking him than being with me."

I laughed out loud--how could he think I was still interested in that creep David? But then I felt bad for Paul, because he was supposed to be having a fun evening at the prom and I was acting all skittish on him. Now I knew I couldn't let David ruin my prom because then I'd end up ruining Paul's. David is so mean to try to ruin a whole group's fun like that. I made up my mind to be extra specially nice to my date.

I told Paul not to worry and explained that I was trying to stay as far away from David as possible. That sort of cheered him up, and then we both got a good laugh watching Karen and Gordon on the dance floor. I mean, who listens to that music any more?

When they started playing the slow music, I grabbed Paul by the hand and went out to the dance floor. This evening was going to turn out fine.
