Who We AreHISTORYEducational Development Initiative (EdDI) was created on February 2009 by a group of MIT iHouse students cognizant of a growing need of funding in international development projects, both designed by MIT students and by external organizations. After discussion, the founders of EdDI decided to couple this demand with a SAT Subject Test Preparation Program for local-area high school students, with the complete revenue of the SAT Subject Test Preparation Program, less administrative costs, being rechanneled into international development work, both at MIT and to recognized international development organizations. HOW IT WORKSAt the heart of EdDI is APEX, our SAT Subject Test Preparation Program, which seeks to prepare high school students for SAT Subject Tests in Math Level 2, Math Level 1, Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. Drawing from the talented student pool at MIT, all courses are taught by qualified MIT undergraduates which has been hand-selected by us based on their teaching abilities and their testing performance. All revenue stemming from the Subject Test Preparation Program, after we reserve a portion of it for administrative and material costs (around 10-20%), will be completely donated to a federally-recognized 501(c)(3) non-profit organization working in the field of international development or to MIT undergraduate students working on approved, sustainable international development projects. Additionally, EdDI hopes to be a catalyst on campus in regards to raising awareness on international development issues both to current MIT undergraduates and local high school students from surrounding high schools. International development events will be planned and conducted throughout the year. For more information, please see Our Activities page. |
