Robot Soccer Competition

At the end of DME, all participants will take their completed SoccerBots and compete in a double-elimination tournament.

Rules of the Game

1. Duration of Play
  • The game will consist of 6 minutes of play, divided into into two halves of 3 minutes each.
  • There will be a 1 minute break between the halves.
2. Starting the Game
  • Each team will place their robots on their half of the field in any configuration they choose, with the exception of the central circle. Only one robot, chosen from the team which has possession of the ball, will be allowed in that central circle.
  • Play will commence at the discretion of the referee.
3. Scoring
  • A team will be considered to have scored a point if at any time 50 percent or more of the ball is in the goal defended by their opponent.
  • Each goal will be worth one point.
  • After a goal is made, time will stop until the team who was scored on starts with the ball in a manner identical to the start of the game.
4. Defense
  • Robots may play defense in order to take possession of the ball or to prevent the other team from scoring. Robots may not employ strategies specifically aimed at the damage or disablement of other robots.
  • There will be no goal tending. Robots cannot be in contact with the small box surrounding their own goal.
5. Out of Bounds
  • If the ball goes out of bounds, it will be immediately returned to the starting poin in teh center of the field by a referee with no stoppage of time.
6. Robot breakdown procedure
  • Build a robot that doesn't break :P.
7. Winning
  • The team with the most points at the end of the second half will be declared the winner of the game.
  • In the event of a tie, a sudden death, overtime period will be used to determine the winner
