Mindfulness refers to our innate ability to pay attention to whatever is happening in the present-moment with openness, curiosity and non-judgment. While mindfulness, in essence, is simple, it is not always easy to remember to be mindful given that our minds are so often on “auto pilot”. The practice of meditation can help us to cultivate this quality of mindfulness, so that we may experience a greater ability to cope with stressful situations, and to enjoy life more fully. Recent studies suggest that practicing meditation may lead to increased focus and concentration, a greater sense of well-being, improved sleep, and reductions in anxiety. In this introductory class, we will practice both sitting and walking meditation, and explore ways to bring more mindfulness into our daily lives.
