The Math curriculum will cover a wide range of topics including operations with decimals and fractions, ratios, rates of change, unit conversions, probability, and central tendencies. It will also include many Common Core Algebra topics. Students will evaluate expressions with variables, solve equations, and graph linear relationships.
During the program we will spend a significant amount of focus on Sabermetrics, the practical analysis of baseball statistics. We will use recent data to calculate and analyze various advanced baseball stats and create formulas to extrapolate and predict the future performance of MLB stars. Our work will culminate in a mock baseball draft where students will research current players and build a team based on the students’ mathematical study of Major League Baseball.
