International Undergraduate Orientation Schedule

International Undergraduate Student Orientation begins on Monday, August 21, 2017. All new international students, including transfer students are required to attend the mandatory events that will be held on Monday and Tuesday, August 21st and 22nd. The events are for students only. Please make your travel plans and other arrangements accordingly.

Monday, August 21
9:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m. Welcome Breakfast & Introduction
Rise to the delicious aroma of your first breakfast at MIT and the friendly chatter of your fellow international students.

10:15 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. Banking, Loans, & Financial Aid (Mandatory)
Our presenters are staff from the MIT student accounts, loans, financial aid offices as well as the MIT Federal Credit Union.

11:15 a.m. – 12:15 p.m. Medical Center Presentation (Mandatory)
Learn about medical services and insurance, and get tips on how to access critical information and wellness resources.

12:15 p.m. – 1:15 p.m. Picnic Lunch and Group Photo
Join your classmates and mentors for your first lunch in Killian! Eat, chat, relax, and show us your best smile for our only group photo.

Learn critical immigration information that you need to know as an MIT student.

Meet the friendly staff of S^3 and learn about their services, support and advocacy.

4:15 p.m. – 5:15 p.m. MIT 101 (Mandatory)
You are now an MIT student. So, what is that like? Learn about cultural differences and receive tips from upperclassment in this fun, interactive session.

5:15 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. Public Transportation Lab (Mandatory)
Hands-on introduction to public transportation. Walk to Kendall Square with your mentors and learn how to load your MIT card. You will need it tomorrow!

6:00 p.m. – 12:00 p.m. Dinner Break & Summer Night Social
Along with your mentors, explore the many eating options near campus. Then spend the evening playing games or chatting with your fellow students.

Start the day with a tasty breakfast of quiche, breakfast sandwiches, and fresh fruit.

10:15 a.m. – 11:45 a.m. Cultural Awareness Presentation (Mandatory)
This presentation looks in depth at concepts of culture, culture shock, and states of adjustment.

12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m. Academic Integrity Presentation (Mandatory) Learn how, why, and when you cite sources and other critical writing/research tips during this interactive seminar. Room 3-270
1:00 p.m. – 1:30 p.m. Picnic Lunch

2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. Charles River Cruise (box lunch)
Grab your lunch in Killian then make your way to Cambridgeside Galleria. We will cruise along the Charles for a narrated tour with spectacular views of Boston/Cambridge.
