Club History
-
The MIT Ballroom Dance Club was established over 25 years ago.
It was started by a group of MIT students who wanted to have
more opportunities to practice ballroom dancing.
Partly because of the ever-increasing popularity of ballroom dancing,
the MITBDC has expanded substantially in its membership since then to become one of
the largest ballroom dance organizations in New England.
The MITBDC has become the model for other collegiate ballroom dance clubs in the New
England area and is regarded as a main force in promoting ballroom dancing
among local residents from all walks of life.
-
The MITBDC also earns its reputation through the outstanding achievements
of some of its members, past and present, in the ballroom dancing circuit.
This accomplished group of members includes regional and national amateur champions,
professional instructors, and professional champions.
Nevertheless, the club's main emphasis is still on social dancing.
-
The operation of the MITBDC is orchestrated by an executive committee of thirteen officers.
New officers are elected in April and take office on May 15th every year.
In addition to our officers, we need the support of volunteers
who are willing to work with us on different areas in the operation of the Club.
If you are interested in volunteering (and there are many ways!),
please contact any of the officers.
