Site: The meeting will be held on the
campus of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. A map of the meeting site is available. (GIF, ~80K)
Format: Anticipated format is that of a
"standard" DPS meeting, consisting of a mix of invited talks, contributed
oral talks, and contributed posters.
Meeting Schedule: The meeting block calendar is now available in PostScript and PDF formats. The full program and abstracts for the meeting are now online in HTML format, and the program (no abstracts) is available in text format.
Special Events: Special events during
the conference include a DPS registration reception (including the Leonardo da Vinci exhibit) at the Boston Museum of Science, July 27; a Boston Red
Sox game, July 29; and a Boston Harbor Cruise (including lobster/clambake
banquet), July 30. A calendar with schedules for some of these special events is now online.
Housing: Two options are
available:
- MIT Campus Housing is now sold out.
- Cambridge Center Mariott (800 m from meeting
site) at $130 + 10% tax (single or double) per night. The registration deadline
is July 14.
Transportation: The greater Boston area (including Cambridge) is served by Logan International Airport which is
serviced by all major U.S. and many international air carriers. Train service to Boston is available via Amtrak. We now have vital travel information to help conference attendees get to the meeting and housing sites. There is also driving information and parking information for those driving to the conference.
Abstracts: The submission deadline was 1997 June 4, 5pm CDT. Late abstracts may still be accepted. Meeting abstracts are now online.
Following the precedent set in 1996, all meeting abstracts must be submitted
electronically. Abstract information and submission forms are now available. Direct inquiries to dotson@lpi.jsc.nasa.gov. The Call for Papers issued in February and April gives information on DPS speaker's rules. Persons wishing to join the DPS should consult the membership information.
Workshops: The deadline for workshop space requests was 1997 May 1. The workshop schedule is now available. Limited space may still be available. Please use the the workshop registration form.
Meeting Preregistration Deadline: 1997 June 20.
A downloadable registration form that can be printed out and mailed in is available, as well as an online registration form for those paying by credit card. Direct inquiries to simmons@lpi.jsc.nasa.gov. On-site meeting registration will begin July 27. Please note the Cancellation Policy.
Exhibitor Information: A Postscript version of the exhibit space request form is availble to download, print out, and submit. A form can also be requested by fax at (617) 253-2886.
Public Outreach: A public outreach program in conjunction with the 1997 DPS meeting is being coordinated through the Boston Museum of Science, the JPL Public Service Office, and the Johnson
Space Center.
Education Initiative: A Forum on the NASA-OSS Education Initiative is being organized by Dr. Linda French, DPS Education Officer.
Special Needs: DPS members having special needs that must be accomodated in order to participate in the meeting are requested to contact the Local Organizing Committee immediately so that necessary arrangements may be made.
