Projects for, about and by design

I am passionate about woodworking. I love learning new techniques and creating interesting pieces. For example, I find that turning wood by hand leavesa wonderful feeling of connectedness to the piece. For these reasons, the MIT Hobby Shop is a invaluable resource as they are always ready to work out how to make whatever idea I've come up with. My current project is preparing models to make a CNC electric solid-body guitar.

I have made a wide range of projects in wood, including the ones pictured here. From wooden pull toys for children, to picture frames and cutting boards. The name tag shown here was made for a class. I decided to make mine interactive, so each letter is a different note on a xylophone, which when played together sound a C7 chord. Refinishing a table made by my great-grandfather was one of the most enjoyable projects I have completed. I not only restored the table and accompanying benches, but also installed inlaid tile made by grand-uncle (a ceramic artist) in the center to act as a trivet.
