Katrina: student initiatives

MIT students have been organizing through their living groups, working with staff on collections, and running club-centered drives. RLAs, GRTs, and other residence-based staff and students have set up collections or funding drives at their houses; the Bangledeshi Students Association ran a bake sale that included a collection for Katrina victims; a student organized the FSILG Community Service Chairs for a TechCash collection drive at their residence halls; and students in the Warehouse have fulfilled a request for school supplies for Teach for America in the East Baton Rouge School District, thanks in part to Chancellor Clay's offer of funding. Several student leaders have created a well-organized team of about 50 students, who have formed committees to deal with different aspects of the relief effort. These committees are organizing:
