Seeking run-time staff!
- What does a run-time staffer do?
-
Run-time staff do all the behind-the-scenes work. A good run-time
staffer will make running DME look easy! Some tasks include: setting up
meals, setting up the contest area, finding spare parts, acquiring
tools that have suddenly become necessary, and so on.
- It sounds like mentors have to be perky.
-
Indeed, mentors should be enthusiastic, especially in the morning when
making wake-up calls to their freshmen. Run-time staff, on the other
hand, are not required to be perky, as long as the staffers refrain
from growling at the freshmen.
- What are the hours?
-
Some of the run-time staff will be on call 24/7. Some may be available
only for the contest day, or only for setting up meals. Your time
commitment is directly related to your responsibility level.
- I wanted to be a mentor but I don't qualify!
-
If you are a graduate student, perhaps you should look at the alumni page. If you are in the wrong major but still
want to help, run-time staff is the place for you!
- Do I have to wait until August to help out?
-
Absolutely not. In fact, we strongly encourage you to help out
now. The more you know about DME, the more useful you will be when the
program is running. In fact, most of the development team that is not
in mechanical engineering will be run-time staff.
