Lectures

The Spectroscopy Laboratory sponsors public lectures throughout the year, including the Dasari Lecture series, the Lord Lecture series, as well as talks during Independent Activites Period (IAP) each year in January.

Dasari Lecture

The Dasari Lecture invites a prominent scientist associated with the Spectroscopy Laboratory to deliver a public lecture. Inaugurated in 2007 and named for Dr. Ramachandra R. Dasari, Associate Director and researcher of the Spectroscopy Laboratory, the lecture is hosted annually during the fall semester as the highlight session of the fall MOS Seminar.

Richard C. Lord Lecture

The Lord Lecture, held annually during the spring semester since 1992, honors a scientist who has made important contributions to the field of spectroscopy. The scientist is invited to deliver a public lecture at MIT as the highlight session of the spring MOS Seminar. Lecturers are selected by committee of chemists, physicists and engineers at MIT who are active in various fields of spectroscopy. The lecture series commemorates the achievements of Dr. Richard C. Lord, a pioneer in infrared and biochemical spectroscopy and director of the Spectroscopy Laboratory for 30 years.
