The classroom is meant to be felt as an enclosed, safe, calm, contemplative place within the busy nursery and city surrounding.
The waves of growing whips encircle the central outdoor classroom. The classroom is enclosed within a slight rise and fall of the earth. The students will rise up and step down into their core meeting space. The 'room' is a series of three stepped terraces that act as a seating area, to afford an equal view of the very center to all. The terraces are three feet wide, and one foot high. Within the 20' core (for presentations, classes, plays, meetings, etc) lies the five foot wide water table basin, which is also a perfect circle. Along the highest, outermost ring, four Quercus robur (English Oak) are planted, chosen for their urban adaptability, fast growth rate, and sculptural form. These will be a permanent part of the nursery, forming a small garden within it that will grow and become more enclosed over time.
