Concept Refinement is an ssignment from 2.744 - Product Design in which students take what they have learned from their concept sketch models related to their chosen design opportunities for the course project and come up with a detailed design. Team America has chosen to design a clue scanner disguised as a flip-top glasses case that store possible intelligence clues found in the Director's office. To proceed with the detailed design, Team America decided to split the work into three parts: (1) Form/Lighting, (2) Hardware/Mechanism, and (3) Software/Interface. Wey-Jiun, along with Angela, worked on the Form/Lighting. They worked out the details regarding exteriors of the device, what the user will see, along with the lighting that simulates "scanning." To learn more about the other aspects of the clue scanner, please visit the team website. Project
Review: The device does not actually have to "scan" the object, but recognizes when it is a clue and either stores or sends information about the clue. The team has chosen to do this by using RFID. Spy
Requirements: The scanner design can either be disguised as an everyday object or a brand new design. The priority should be that the scanner is functionally intuitive--the guide should not need to take time to explain to the team how to use it. Form follows function. Click on
