알렉스 황 교수의 교육 및 논저들(영어, 중국어, 독일어로 발표됨)은 다음의 세 가지 주요 영역에 집중되어 있다: (1) 중국 및 중국이주민에 대한 현대 문학, 연극, 영화; (2) 셰익스피어(르네상스 드라마와 20세기 비평이론 간 접점 찾기); (3) 상상적 글쓰기와 기타 다른 형식의 문화적 산물 사이의 영역에서 인종과 국가의 제 문제에 대한 쟁점들. 현재 그는 ‘초기 근대 연구위원회(Committee for Early Modern Studies)’의 회원이기도 하다.

2009년, 알렉스 황은 폴저 도서관 전시회 “상상속의 중국: 유럽으로부터의 시선, 1550-1700”(Imagining China: The View from Europe, 1550-1700) (큐레이터: 티모시 빌링스(Timothy Billings))의 비디오 큐레이터를 맡을 예정이다. 그리고 MIT 주도의 온라인 비디오 목록 및 연구 프로젝트 “아시아의 셰익스피어 공연(Shakespeare Performance in Asia)”에서 핵심 공동제작자로서 활동하면서 공연 비디오가 교육과 연구를 위한 공유 자료가 될 수 있도록 힘쓰고 있다. 이 프로젝트는 향후 전 세계의 셰익스피어 공연으로 영역을 확장할 계획이다.

현재 진행 중인 프로젝트로는, ‘해학, 인식론, 그리고 현대 중국문화에 관한 저서’, ‘이타성과 다언어로 표현되는 셰익스피어 공연물들에 관한 저서’, ‘윤리와 공연에 관한 저서,’ 그리고 ‘전쟁시기의 셰익스피어 공연에 관한 공동연구 프로젝트’ 등이 있다. 알렉스 황은 또한 코넬 대학의 ‘세계 공연예술 데이터베이스 프로젝트’Global Performing Arts Database (GloPAD) 에 참여해왔으며, ‘스탠포드의 아시아 셰익스피어’(Stanford Shakespeare in Asia) 제작에 기여해 왔다.

알렉스 황은 스탠포드 대학에서 비교문학(영어,독일어,중국어) 박사학위와 인문학 박사학위를 공동으로 취득하였다.
