Eager to respond off the last loss to Salem
State and playing without sophomore Kyle
Doherty who was sick with the flu, MIT jumped out to an
early 6-0 lead. Freshman Adam Gibbons
had two early baskets and freshman Mike
Huhs was able to score inside for the Engineers. Conn
College slowly crept back into the game, but the first half
was mainly a defensive struggle as the Engineers did a much
better job on the boards led by Huhs
and juniors Boris Paskalev and
Brian Hoying. .Junior Neal
Brenner and freshman Eli Sheets
each hit 3-pointers for the MIT as they trailed 20-19 going
to halftime.
The defensive struggle continued, but the
Engineers were able to build a five point lead as freshman
Adam Gibbons caught fire from the
outside. Gibbons hit all of his
three 3-pointers in the second half. The Engineers also got
timely baskets down the stretch allowing them to cling to
their slim lead. Brenner hit another
3-pointer and Huhs and Paskalev
each had big inside baskets off assists from freshman Danny
Kanamori and junior Alex Phillips.
Kanamori also hit a pull-up plus
a foul with two minutes remaining in the ball game to give
the Engineers a six point lead. The Engineers were able to
make enough foul shots down the stretch as Phillips
hit 1 of 2 free throws with under ten seconds remaining to
preserve the win.
