Atlantis II Geology Lab Needs

Since most of our experiments revolve around data being collected on-site, the geology lab for the first six months of operation will be relatively bare. We will need:
  • One computer per onsite geologist, with a central server capable of processing large amounts of data quickly
  • Electron and Optical microscopes for analysis of core samples
  • Basic chemical lab equipment (i.e. glassware, Bunsen burners, ring stands, standard laboratory chemicals such as sulfuric/hydrochloric acid and sodium hydroxide in the form of a kit with which the onboard geologists are familiar and comfortable)
  • Storage space for samples to be sent to surface
  • Spectroscopy equipment for rapid identification of chemicals
