Research Themes

The Program involves a core team of faculty and PhD students focusing on five themes. Presented below are brief descriptions of each of the five principal themes of the current research: safety and security; industry structure and competition; labor relations; infrastructure; and alternative business models. These themes have been selected on the basis of three criteria. They:

  1. Address fundamental issues in the industry
  2. Constitute promising areas for graduate student research
  3. Contribute to an integrative, interdisciplinary view of the central puzzle in the industry today: the development of alternative paradigms or “business models” as they relate to planning, operations, and marketing in a restructured airline industry.

The following are links to the various themes:

  1. Safety and Security
  2. Industry Structure and Competition
  3. Labor Relations & Human Resources
  4. Infrastructure
  5. Alternative Business Models
