Montmartre
Located at the top of la butte, Montmartre is a charming neighborhood that draws a lot of tourists who come to visit Sacre Coeur and to see the citywide panoramic view. One can reach Sacre Coeur by funicular, but it is much more pleasant to walk up the tiny steep streets of Montmartre, as we found it a nice way to absorb the quaint atmosphere of the area.
Montmartre's popularity in recent years was boosted by the success of the films Moulin Rouge! and Le fabuleux destin de Amélie Poulain, and it is evident that the area thrives on its tourist appeal. Many streets close to Sacre Coeur are populated by souvenir stores and artists who want to sketch your portrait.
