  • Academic Licensing:

Free beta test licenses are currently being offered for non-profit classroom use during the spring 2001 semester.

MODEL.LA has been tested extensively and used in the classroom by students at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. The purpose of this free beta test is to promote the use of MODEL.LA, to obtain feedback from academic users regarding the software, and to foster the development of a community of MODEL.LA users.

To obtain a free beta test academic license for the spring 2001 semester, obtain an installation CD-ROM for MODEL.LA and the VMG Property Package by following the instructions for obtaining a demo CD-ROM.

Once MODEL.LA and VMG are installed, academic instructors may request a free one semester beta test license from Virtual Materials Group for the Virtual Materials Property Package.

  • Business or Personal Use Licensing:

Inquiries regarding the licensing of MODEL.LA for non-academic use should be directed to Prof. George Stephanopoulos at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Licensing information for Virtual Materials thermodynamic software components may be obtained from the Virtual Materials Group website.

  • Requesting License Keys from Virtual Materials Group:

After installation of the VMG Property Package, a software key license must be obtained from Virtual Materials Group, Inc. (VMG). To obtain a license key from VMG:

    1. If it is not yet installed, install the VMG Property Package by running the installation program C:\Modella\Vmg\Disk1\Setup.exe. Note that the VMG Property Package is normally installed automatically after the MODEL.LA installation.
    2. Run the SeaPP.exe license program, C:\Program Files\Common Files\SEApp\SeaPP.exe. In the dialog that appears, copy the alphanumeric string in the box labeled Site Code:.
    3. Complete the form at http://vmgroup.redtree.com/users/license to request a license key from VMG. The site code from step 2 will be required. Academic users should state that they are requesting a VMG license key for use with MODEL.LA, and whether a trial or beta-test license is desired.
    4. When a license key is obtained from VMG, run the SeaPP.exe program again. Enter the license key in the box labeled Site Key and press the Register button. The text in the Status: box should then read Valid Program License.
