Postdoctoral Positions Avaliable

Posting categor(ies): Engineering/Scientific Research

Work location: Cambridge, MA

The Laser Biomedical Research Center (LBRC) of the MIT Spectroscopy Laboratory has immediate openings for two post-doctoral associates in the areas of Raman spectroscopy and biomedical imaging. The main focus of the Raman spectroscopy post-doc position is confocal Raman microscopy of cells and tissue and development, characterization and clinical testing of Raman spectral probes, leading to diagnosis and detection of breast cancer and characterization of atherosclerotic plaques in coronary and carotid arteries. Tasks will involve both instrument development and basic/clinical studies.

The main theme of the imaging post-doc position is spectral endoscopic imaging of internal organs, such as the gastrointestinal tract. The LBRC has pioneered in developing spectroscopic techniques for diagnosis of disease in clinical settings in various organs of the body using contact probe techniques, and now plans to extend these to to wide-field biomedical imaging using similar techniques.

The LBRC has excellent facilities for various spectroscopic techniques including light scattering, fluorescence and Raman spectroscopy.

Candidates with Ph.D. or M.D./Ph.D. degrees in chemistry, physics, biomedical, chemical or other engineering disciplines may apply. Specific experience related to the areas of interest is strongly preferred. The post-docs will have opportunities to pursue independent biomedical research, as well as work with graduate students. Please send C.V., along with names of three references who can be contacted for recommendations to Professor Michael Feld, Director, Spectroscopy Laboratory, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, NW 14, Rm. 1102, 170 Albany Street, Cambridge, MA 02139.
