Themes

Six encompassing themes are at the center of CMS. These themes cross academic disciplines and involve both traditional and emerging communications media, establishing a focus for public presentations, research agendas, and curricular initiatives. Faculty and graduate student research assistants support this work. Through its projects, symposia, outreach programs, and research projects, CMS explores the social, economic and cultural impact of digital technologies and their analog forebearers.

Consortium

To further the development of CMS research and education, we work with select organizations to coordinate and execute projects driven by faculty and student activities. Annual membership dues allow faculty to develop ideas and explore issues, host conferences, symposia, and colloquia, coordinate travel and purchase equipment around research, and support graduate student fellowships and undergraduate research opportunities. Members gain shared access to research and programs, participation in quarterly events and periodic conferences, exchanges with MIT faculty, and introduction to students.
