It is nice to have the entire checkout process completely automated. However, there are still too many issues surrounding self-checkout to leave it unattended. Having an attendent available at all times will alleviate many people's fears. An option on the screen to ask for an attendant's assistance would be helpful, just like those found on airplanes. Without the attendant, the self-checkout experience can be an extremely frustrating experience.
