Quote of the Day: “Snively
loves the Internet. Too much. Seriously…that kid is just weird sometimes. He
gets the most disproportionate enjoyment out of the most random, absurd,
completely mind-numbing oddities that can be found in the tubes”

Did you know? All MIT
Rooms and Dorms had a phone number associated with it as a part of Dormline,
the old MIT dormitory telephone system. It was usurped by 5ess. Collect and
third-number calls will not be accepted at this number.

Safety
Be Warry of Scams (Phishing,
Internships, Remote Jobs)
Phishing
Because MIT is a world-renowned
institution there are an innumerable amount of people who will invoke its name
and community to get (but not you ofc)
But truthfully this is quite
common at various institutions
https://www.bu.edu/police/2021/09/16/boston-university-community-fraud-alert/
Sometimes there would be Official
Police Reports for these crimes
They Usually Target
International Student Communities
But sometimes these emails can be
more targeted, the funniest one happened my first year I would get emails to my
MIT account saying they have a recording of me masturbating on camera and demand
bitcoin
Less bizarre variants include:
·
Charity
·
remote UROPs
·
inheritance
·
debt collection
but I cannot emphasize enough to
get a good password manager or even just have it in a physical notebook. You
will lose important apps
Even Recently Student Organizations cant always secure an
account back.
