SHED located at N52-496 is a prototyping space that is part of a facility, it supports research in safe cutting edge tech across multiple disciplines (mechanical, bio, chemical, electrical, radiation, etc…) SHED’s mission is to enable the safe research of advancing technology
it is has traditional + more advanced tech - e.g. metal 3D printer, high-end polymer printers, bio printers, laser machining, and eventually others.  s, etc.  We’ll be building the space and learning as we go.  We envision student mentors will help make this possible.

To have access to this space, apply for mentorship.
culpepper@mit.edu (WORD or PDF, no other formats/links)

mentors get expanded access hours, 1st access to new tech/workshops, and invites to SHED social activities.  With either a $500/semester materials stipend, or participate in a flexible UROP for pay (6 hours/wk), or they can simply volunteer if they like.

In exchange, for 3 hr/wk mentors share their extensive knowledge and training to help train users and staff open hours

Other Buildings in Depth

The Campus Activities Complex (CAC) are the heads for many of the large and recognizable facilities at MIT, they offer event coordination, building management, tenant services and support services for major Institute events and conferences. The CAC manages and stewards the use of five multipurpose buildings as centers for social, cultural, educational, religious, and recreational interaction: Stratton Student Center (W20), Kresge Auditorium (W16), the Religious Activities Center (W11), MIT Chapel (W15), Walker Memorial (50), the Stata Center (32), Wong Auditorium (E51), and Reservable Outdoor Space, as well as a host of other spaces on campus such as lobbies 10 and 13 and the Kresge barbecue pits. If you need a place for an event or activity, these are the people to contact. Spaces need to be reserved in advance; how far in advance depends on the space, but for large facilities like Kresge it can be months. For more information, see Reserving Facilities in the MIT Facilities chapter.
