- There will be several optional trips sponsored by CRI and
chaperoned by Thai graduate students. Specific information as to
itinerary, cost, and how to sign-up will be provided in advance.
- Trips will include several day trips in the
greater Bangkok area, such as a visit
to the Grand Palace and
the Temple of the Emerald
Buddha. There
will be no charge for transportation or admittance fees for these
excursions, but charges for food and drink will be your responsibility.
- CRI may also sponsor overnight
trips that are open to Thai-ROP students. For these trips,
transportation will be provided at no charge, but students may be
responsible for accommodation and meal charges.
Other Travel in Thailand
The CRI and/or the Thai-ROP coordinator can
help students organize and make travel arrangements for trips within and
around Bangkok, such as: - Local attractions – such as boat tours on the Chao Phraya
River and canals, puppet shows, Thai boxing, Thai movie theaters, night
and Saturday market bazaars, gardens, museums and shopping.
- The Floating Market of Damnoen Saduak and Ayuttheya, the
ancient capital of Thailand – are two easy day trips from Bangkok.
- The Rose Garden, a taste of Thailand foods, crafts, customs,
and arts in one place.
- There are many
other places to visit in and around Bangkok and we encourage you to talk
with your CRI friends and colleagues for suggestions and/or to go
online and see what's out there.
On Weekends and over CRI holidays, ThaiROPs are free to travel
on overnight trips outside of Bangkok.
- Consult with CRI staff and students for recommended
itineraries.
- CRI and
ThaiROP coordinators can help students plan and make travel arrangements
for trips within Thailand.
- Notify the ThaiROP coordinator of your plans and provide a copy
of your travel itinerary.

Outside
Thailand
CRI requires that ThaiROP students remain
within Thailand during the 10 week ThaiROP Program. - If you wish to travel outside of Thailand, please schedule
your trip before and/or after the summer research program.
- Trips outside of Thailand, such as to Cambodia, require
additional visas for entry into the country you are visiting and for
re-entry into Thailand.
