The CRI residence
and laboratory facilities are located within the gated campus of the
Chulabhorn
Research Institute in the Lak si district of Bangkok, Thailand.
Security
guards are posted at every gate and at every building - on a 24/7 basis.
When
traveling outside of the CRI campus, it is advisable to use the
following
precautions: - Find
out about your destination - before you set out. Consult with a CRI
employee or
student familiar with the area and/or the place (shopping area,
restaurant,
museum, theater, etc.) you plan to visit. Or, check on line for
information.
- Travel
with others, rather than alone.
- Carry your passport and a CRI
business card, which has the CRI address printed in Thai and English.
The crime
level in Bangkok
remains lower than that in many American. Nevertheless, you are advised
to:
- Be
wary
of pick pockets and purse-snatchers when walking in crowded markets,
tourist sites and bus/train/subway stations.
- Use
only metered Taxi services: unmetered cabs may over-charge for the trip.
- Beware
of drivers or strangers who promote special deals for purchasing gems or
tailored clothing or who offer to take you on “special” tours of the
city or
visits to places of entertainment not available to most tourists. They
are
almost certainly scams, will not save you money, and may get you into
trouble.
- Credit
cards should be used only in reputable, established businesses, and the
amount
charged should be checked for accuracy.
