Key Dates

The Institute allocated funds several years ago to assist DLCs who had *no* funding for computing equipment and needed an adequate computing environment to participate in any of the large Reengineering initiatives. The fund has remained static over the years and we have continued to meet the Community's growing needs through standardizing on equipment, equipment lifecycles and large purchases; thereby, driving down costs. Additionally, the participants of this renewal program are limited to the administrative community. It does not address the needs of the faculty, research staff, developers, software configurers, temporary appointments, student vouchers, etc.

The Renewal Process

  • Hardware and Software standards are set in the Spring of each year
  • Participant hardware and software are evaluated; those requiring renewal are identified
  • Equipment is ordered
  • Renewals are scheduled throughout the year (this will be done in conjunction with the preventative maintenance schedule)

The Renewal Schedule

  • Equipment is renewed on a three to four year renewal cycle (due to real budget constraints in FY04 and expected constraints in FY05, some equipment will be stretched to four or more years)
  • Equipment is limited to desktop computers (Macintosh or Windows) and printers
  • Laptops often require cost sharing
  • Servers, peripherals, special needs equipment are not funded through this program
