OrigamiUSA 2003 New York

What: OrigamiUSA 2003 New York Convention
By: ...lots of people
From: ...all over...

Why: If you still haven't been to the NY convention, you should plan on going some year. There's nothing quite like many hundreds of people all spending three crazy days of folding, folding, and more folding... My photo album from the 2003 con is at: http://web.mit.edu/lavin/www/origami/ousa03/. Enjoy!

Kawamura's "Twistar 90"

What: Twistar 90
By: KAWAMURA Miyuki
From: unpublished

Why: I'm planning on teaching this at the 2003 OUSA convention in New York, so I was practicing it. It's a very cool model, with dodecahedral symmetry. The name comes from the 90 degree angles in the points of each vertex, and that the model is made from twisted strips, and is a spikey star shape.

Koh's "Blackmoor Goldfish"

What: Blackmoor Goldfish
By: Ronald Koh
From: Origami Goldfish

Why: Ron's published a book of really wonderful goldfish designs through OrigamiUSA. I thought it would be fun to teach one of them at the 2003 convention, so I was practicing.

It's a complex model, and takes several hours to do well. It's fantastically detailed, and has some very clever folds that create the volume of paper needed for the bubble eyes and many decorative fins on this fish.
