Kawasaki's "Frog"
What: Frog
By: KAWASAKI Toshikazu
From: Origami Dream World - Flower and Animal Volume, ISBN: 425500238X (Japanese)
Why: I like frogs, real and origamic. The photo of this one in the book looked really great, so I thought I'd try it. It uses lots of box-pleating to get the long, thin legs, and does cool things to get the flippers. Plus you get a nice froggy-shaped plump body. Cool.
Kawasaki's "1-minute Rose"
What: 1-minute Rose
By: Kawasaki
From: Origami Dream World - Flower and Animal Volume, ISBN: 425500238X (Japanese)
Why: The classic Kawasaki rose, while stunning, takes a good bit of practice to fold with any speed and/or accuracy (I'm told Kawasaki san can fold one in mere minutes, and I know some origami friends of mine come close to that.) So I was intrigued by the title of this one, a purported "1-minute" Kawasaki rose.
Maybe I'm just slow - it takes me more than a minute to fold this one! But it is easier and takes less time to fold than his regular roses. Nice model.

Lang's "Ruby-Throated Hummingbird"
What: Ruby-Throated Hummingbird
By: Robert Lang
From: Origami Design Secrets, Robert Lang, ISBN 1568811942
http://www.langorigami.com
Why: I had started this model at the 2003 NY OUSA convention, working from a galley proof of Robert's book, but ran out of time and didn't get it done. So I had to wait several months until my copy arrived.
FINALLY! It's an astounding book. Not only are the models wonderful, the book contents are simply wonderful and amazing. Every origami practitioner should own a copy of this book. Go buy one.
