Problems

Instructions take too long

Most problems occur because many users are not experienced with the self-checkout system and are not familiar with all of its nuances. For this reason, the intructions are explicitly recited throughout the entire checkout process. But this becomes a source of annoyance for experienced self-checkout users who already know the process. Many people would rather skip the lengthy instructions that come with checking out, but they are not given the option to do so.

Another occasion where the audio assistant can be frustrating is when the user has to scan many of the same item. In the video in the experience section, one can see that scanning 10 cups of yogurt is frustrating. The shopper had to wait for the audio assistant to say "79 cents, 29 cents savings" after each scan before he could scan the next cup.
