Occasionally, there are problems with the scanning of items. Either an item does not register, or it is entered as a different item with a different price. Also, if it is an item without a barcode, the shopper sometimes experiences problems finding the item in the look-up directory. Normally, popular produce like apples and oranges are straightforward. However, less popular items such as the yucca root are not easily found in the directory and may not even be listed. When this happens, the shopper must wait for an attendant on duty to help them, which again becomes a bottleneck.
