Kayla Esquivel
Hi! I am a PhD student in the Lab for Information and Decision System (LIDS) at MIT. My research focuses on statistics and machine learning, which try to process, reason about, and make use of data. I am very excited about the field of statistics and learning, where interesting things are happening that are impacting both the theoretical study and people’s daily life. Before coming to MIT, I majored in electrical engineering in HKUST. Outside of work, I enjoy playing the piano, watching movies, and running along the Charles river. I am really excited to share the joy of math with you this summer!
Hi! I'm a PhD candidate working with Dr. Jim Glass in the Spoken Language Systems group at CSAIL. My research focuses on natural language processing, which allows the computer to understand what someone has said and respond to them, like Sirir! Specifically, I'm working on a nutrition application that enables users to more easily track their diet using speech input. In my free time, I enjoy swimming, running, playing tennis, reading novels, playing the piano, singing, and dancing. I'm also passionate about encouraging women to pursue careers in science and technology, especially computer science.
Residential Tutors are current female MIT undergraduates or recent graduates. They assist the WTP-EECS Instructors in the classroom, and also live in the dormitory with the high school students, chaperoning residential life, creating fun activities and field trips, and helping with homework.

Hey everybody! I’m a rising senior studying Course 18C (Math with CompSci) and I’m minoring in Comparative Media Studies. I am a huge Star Trek fan, I love playing all types of sports, and I’m always up for baking goodies. Some of my favorite things to do are play Trivial Pursuit or Pictionary, binge watch tv shows, and read fantasy/sci-fi books. I love Parks and Rec, The Office, Game of Thrones, and every Star Trek show ever. My cooking attempts usually end up turning into Kraft Mac n Cheese runs, but my baking skills have been improving lately! I’m pumped to be spending my summer with you guys at WTP!
Christina Curlette MIT Class of 2016
Hi everyone! I am a graduating senior double majoring in Mathematics and Computer Science and Engineering with a minor in Applied International Studies. I will be staying at MIT next year to pursue a master’s degree in EECS. Outside of classes, I serve as the president of MIT’s German Club and work on research with MIT’s Institute for Data, Systems and Society (IDSS) and Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Lab (CSAIL). I have also spent time serving as webmaster and executive board member for the Undergraduate Society of Women in Math (USWIM) and tutoring students in ACT prep and computer science with Veritas Prep. In my free time, I enjoy trying new restaurants, traveling, and watching movies. I’m excited for WTP and looking forward to meeting all of you!
MIT Class of 2019
Hi! My name's Marianne (pronounced Marianna; it's Norwegian, like my father). I'm a rising sophomore majoring in Mechanical Engineering with a heavy side of Electrical Engineering and an interest in Linguistics. When I'm not running around campus organizing events, playing with robots, or giving tours, I like to read, do puzzles of all kinds, play board and card games, and talk to people. I'm extremely excited to meet all of you!

Hi! I’m Alexis and I’m a rising sophomore at MIT studying Computer Science. I did WTP in EECS when I was in high school, and I’m really excited to be back working for the program this summer. Outside of class, I play for MIT’s squash team and I’m in a sorority. I also love running and yoga. I’m really excited to get to know you guys this summer!
MIT Class of 2016
Hi! I'm a class of '16 grad from the Boston area! I studied and research Computational Biology, potentially with a focus on genomics and sequencing. I did WTP back when I was in high school too! I love toying around with a bunch of different electronics and software, sometimes causing some great (read: horrible) combinations and unexpected uses. In my free time, I play videogames, program, draw, and cook.

Hello all! I am so stoked to be a tutor for WTP this year!!! I know a few of you might be wondering why a MechE is teaching Computer Science, but to me programming is, in a lot of ways, the most universal language of engineering and I can’t wait to share the beauty of Python with you! Aside from my engineering courses, I’ve been involved with a variety of people, places, and things at MIT including but not limited to debate, drama, musical theater, my sorority, Camp Kesem, politics, eating food (a lot), teaching, and traveling. After graduating MIT this June, I am moving to DC to work as a consultant. Real world, here I come!
MIT Class of 2018
Hello! I'm a rising junior in Mechanical Engineering with interests in many different fields of study ranging from electrical engineering to design. Outside school I love experimenting with baking, exploring new places, going on pretty hikes, attempting to make art, occasionally binging on Netflix (just finished Gossip Girl....) and changing my hair to new and exciting colors. I'd like to welcome you to WTP let you know that I'm really excited to get to know you all this summer :) Residential Assistants live in the dorm and help with evening and weekend activities, and assist with the final motor building project, but do not have other classroom or tutoring responsibilities. Residential Assistants are rising college sophomores; some attended WTP when they were in high school. They help make a warm community in the dorm and they organize residential activities and field trips into Boston and Cambridge.
MIT Class of 2019
Hey guys! I’m excited to work for WTP this summer because I did it when I was in high school and it was one of the best experiences of my life. Outside of majoring in mathematics with computer science, I like watching movies, trying new foods and exploring cool places. I can’t wait for late night baking sessions and fun adventures around Boston this summer with you!
Bailey Tregoning MIT Class of 2019
Hello! I am a mechanical engineering major from Maryland, and I am excited to be an RA this year! My hobbies include running and creating things. I'm on the varsity field hockey and track teams here at MIT, so I know some pretty good running routes around MIT. I can't wait to meet all of you!
MIT Class of 2019
Hello! I'm a rising sophomore from South Florida majoring in Civil and Environmental Engineering. I play on the varsity softball team here at MIT, but I love doing anything active from volleyball to scuba diving! In my free time, I like to bake (and then eat the baked goods I made), and go on adventures around Boston (especially foodventures). I also love corgis, funky socks, and puns (a lot of people think my puns are cheesy, but I think they are pretty gouda). I am so excited to meet you all this summer!
WTP Director and WTP-EECS Track Coordinator
I have been the WTP Director since fall 2002, after the first pilot summer. Before that I managed computer software companies and worked in management consulting. My two children are "out of the nest." In my free time I like to sing, read mysteries, and watch old movies, especially film noire, musicals and science fiction. In addition to my WTP responsibilities, I also direct the Industrial Connection Program here in MIT EECS. Page top |
