Kayla2016

Kayla Esquivel
Electrical Engineering Instructor

Hometown: Houston, TX

Hello! I'm an M.Eng student studying circuits education. I'm a recent MIT undergraduate, having just completed my Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering in 2015. Outside of my studies, I love to spend my time outdoors! Most of my free time is spent rock climbing and hiking across the Northeast. When the weather is poor, I enjoy baking and board games. This is my first time participating in WTP, so I can't wait to for all of you to be here this summer. I hope you're excited too!

Qingqing2016

Qingqing Huang
Discrete Mathematics Instructor

Hometown: Hunan, China

Hi! I am a PhD student in the Lab for Information and Decision System (LIDS) at MIT. My research focuses on statistics and machine learning, which try to process, reason about, and make use of data. I am very excited about the field of statistics and learning, where interesting things are happening that are impacting both the theoretical study and people’s daily life. Before coming to MIT, I majored in electrical engineering in HKUST. Outside of work, I enjoy playing the piano, watching movies, and running along the Charles river. I am really excited to share the joy of math with you this summer!

Mandy2016

Mandy Korpusik
Computer Science Instructor

Hometown: Campbell, CA

Hi! I'm a PhD candidate working with Dr. Jim Glass in the Spoken Language Systems group at CSAIL. My research focuses on natural language processing, which allows the computer to understand what someone has said and respond to them, like Sirir! Specifically, I'm working on a nutrition application that enables users to more easily track their diet using speech input. In my free time, I enjoy swimming, running, playing tennis, reading novels, playing the piano, singing, and dancing. I'm also passionate about encouraging women to pursue careers in science and technology, especially computer science.

Hometown: Bayamón, Puerto Rico

Hi! My name is Ana and I am one of the discrete math tutors for WTP 2016. I'm a rising sophomore from Puerto Rico. I love to bake, draw, and discover new places in Boston. During the year, and when I'm not busy with p-sets or tests, I'm part of the Women's Business Leaders Club and the Association of Puerto Rican Students. I did E2@MIT and Interphase (other summer programs at MIT) so I can promise you Boston/Cambridge is a great place to spend your summer! I am excited to get to know all of you and make WTP as fun and memorable as possible!

Hey everybody! I’m a rising senior studying Course 18C (Math with CompSci) and I’m minoring in Comparative Media Studies. I am a huge Star Trek fan, I love playing all types of sports, and I’m always up for baking goodies. Some of my favorite things to do are play Trivial Pursuit or Pictionary, binge watch tv shows, and read fantasy/sci-fi books. I love Parks and Rec, The Office, Game of Thrones, and every Star Trek show ever. My cooking attempts usually end up turning into Kraft Mac n Cheese runs, but my baking skills have been improving lately! I’m pumped to be spending my summer with you guys at WTP!

Hi everyone! I am a graduating senior double majoring in Mathematics and Computer Science and Engineering with a minor in Applied International Studies. I will be staying at MIT next year to pursue a master’s degree in EECS. Outside of classes, I serve as the president of MIT’s German Club and work on research with MIT’s Institute for Data, Systems and Society (IDSS) and Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Lab (CSAIL). I have also spent time serving as webmaster and executive board member for the Undergraduate Society of Women in Math (USWIM) and tutoring students in ACT prep and computer science with Veritas Prep. In my free time, I enjoy trying new restaurants, traveling, and watching movies. I’m excited for WTP and looking forward to meeting all of you!

Hi! My name's Marianne (pronounced Marianna; it's Norwegian, like my father). I'm a rising sophomore majoring in Mechanical Engineering with a heavy side of Electrical Engineering and an interest in Linguistics. When I'm not running around campus organizing events, playing with robots, or giving tours, I like to read, do puzzles of all kinds, play board and card games, and talk to people. I'm extremely excited to meet all of you!

Hi! I'm a class of '16 grad from the Boston area! I studied and research Computational Biology, potentially with a focus on genomics and sequencing. I did WTP back when I was in high school too! I love toying around with a bunch of different electronics and software, sometimes causing some great (read: horrible) combinations and unexpected uses. In my free time, I play videogames, program, draw, and cook.

Hey all! I’m a recent alum of MIT (class of 2016) and a less recent alum of WTP (class of 2011). (: I’m super excited to meet you all and to share my love of Python, baking, and Boston! I have majored in many things here, including (but not limited to), environmental engineering (course 1E), earth, atmospheric, and planetary sciences (course 12), mathematics (course 18), linguistics (course 24-2), music (21M), mechanical engineering (course 2), and of course, electrical engineering and computer science (6-2). I also enjoy hanging out with my sisters in AEPhi, singing with my a cappella group, the Muses, and mommying for my hall (hall chair), froshies (associate advising), and everyone else (MedLinks).

Hello all! I am so stoked to be a tutor for WTP this year!!! I know a few of you might be wondering why a MechE is teaching Computer Science, but to me programming is, in a lot of ways, the most universal language of engineering and I can’t wait to share the beauty of Python with you! Aside from my engineering courses, I’ve been involved with a variety of people, places, and things at MIT including but not limited to debate, drama, musical theater, my sorority, Camp Kesem, politics, eating food (a lot), teaching, and traveling. After graduating MIT this June, I am moving to DC to work as a consultant. Real world, here I come!

Residential Assistants

Residential Assistants live in the dorm and help with evening and weekend activities, and assist with the final motor building project, but do not have other classroom or tutoring responsibilities. Residential Assistants are rising college sophomores; some attended WTP when they were in high school. They help make a warm community in the dorm and they organize residential activities and field trips into Boston and Cambridge.

Hello! I'm a rising sophomore from South Florida majoring in Civil and Environmental Engineering. I play on the varsity softball team here at MIT, but I love doing anything active from volleyball to scuba diving! In my free time, I like to bake (and then eat the baked goods I made), and go on adventures around Boston (especially foodventures). I also love corgis, funky socks, and puns (a lot of people think my puns are cheesy, but I think they are pretty gouda). I am so excited to meet you all this summer!
