Summer 2009 Instructors Three female MS/PhD students in the MIT Department
of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science design and teach the
Women's Technology Program classes in Computer Science, Electrical
Engineering, and Discrete Math.
Hometown:Congers, NY I'm a fourth year Ph.D. student in the Microsystems Technology Lab, working for Prof. Judy Hoyt. My research is focused on semiconductor devices; in particular, I work on silicon-based opto-electronics. I'm originally from a suburb of New York City and received my undergraduate degree from Princeton. In my spare time, I play a lot of softball and try to cook yummy food (I'm occasionally successful). I'm very excited to be teaching for WTP this summer and I'm looking forward to meeting everyone!
Hometown: Sofia, Bulgaria I am a third year Ph.D. student in the Computer Vision Group of the Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Lab (CSAIL). My research interests are in computer vision, computer graphics, computational photography, and machine learning. My current work focuses on new ways of exploring large photo collections. Before coming to MIT, I worked several years at Microsoft as a Software Design Engineer. In my spare time, I enjoy talking long walks around Boston, reading, spending time with friends. I am looking forward to meeting all of you in the summer!
Hometown: San Mateo, CA I'm a sixth-year PhD student in the Learning and Intelligent Systems (LIS) research group in the Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Lab (CSAIL). I'm interested in artificial intelligence, machine learning, and computer vision, and my research focuses on using grammars (like from language) to represent object and scene classes in images. I grew up on the San Francisco peninsula and did my undergrad degree at Stanford. This is my second year with WTP -- last summer I taught computer science, and this summer I will be teaching discrete math. One of the things I love about math is how it links so many seemingly different fields, and I can't wait to share with you how amazing the theory and the applications of discrete math are! When I'm not teaching or doing research, I love to spend time with my family and friends, read (especially history and fiction), sing, and wander around Cambridge and Boston.
Residential Tutors Residential Tutors are female MIT undergraduates, MEng students, or recent MIT graduates. They assist the WTP-EECS Instructors in the classroom, and also live in the dormitory with the high school students, chaperoning residential life, creating fun activities and field trips, and helping with homework.

MIT
Class of 2010 I'm about to start my senior
year at MIT, majoring in Computer Science. I found out that I like
computers a bit later than most people, and I'm really happy that I
did. So far at MIT, I've been a teaching assistant for two CS classes
and I absolutely love everything about teaching. I can't wait to meet
all the girls for WTP this summer!
In my free time, I enjoy biking, watching movies, learning crazy new things,
and exploring Boston - especially the aquarium. I love robots and currently work
in a lab building artificial intelligences for them. I hope to continue this
work for quite some time. I recently picked up a banjo and would like to learn
how to play it someday soon!
MIT
Class of 2009
I am currently a masters student here in the Computer Science department at MIT. As an undergraduate I developed an interest in both signal processing and artificial intelligence, and therefore can identify with both the Electrical Engineering and the Computer Science worlds. My research is currently focused on a computer implementation of a medical diagnostic test, with the goal of allowing for earlier diagnosis of neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's disease. I was an EE tutor in summer 2007, and am coming back this summer because it was such a great experience! In my free time, I am training to run the Marine Corps Marathon this October. I also love to cook, especially desserts. I look forward to meeting you all this summer!

Class of 2010 Hi! I'm a rising senior majoring in math with computer science. I'm really
excited to be a CS tutor for WTP this summer! Besides math, I've always
loved art, particularly drawing and painting, and occasionally playing
piano.

MIT
Class of 2010
I am a rising senior at MIT in Course 6-1, Electrical
Engineering. I am also working on a Chemistry minor and am concentrating
in Public Policy. My hope is to work in biology, specifically medical
applications for electrical engineering, after MIT. Outside of classes,
I am President of my sorority on campus and a member of the MIT Varsity
Softball team. I can't wait to meet you all and share with you how much
I love EE and MIT!
MIT
Class of 2010
I am a rising senior in the Math department. I love that math takes very obvious ideas and shows that they lead to not-so-obvious results. When I'm not sitting in front of paper and pencil or a computer screen, I also enjoy reading, soccer, volleyball, and dancing. In high school, I needed to have a new ligament literally screwed into my bones due to a sports injury, and I am constantly fascinated by how improved our lives are thanks to engineers. I love to travel, so I'm really excited that I get to study math in Italy after WTP this summer. I can't wait to meet all of you!
MIT
Class of 2009 I’m a graduating senior, having finished a great four years at
MIT.
Besides math and computer science, my interests include music, ballroom
dance, crew, and cycling. I also enjoy many forms of procrastination,
including making chainmaille, playing computer games, solving brain teasers,
and watching episodes of Star Trek. I can’t wait to meet everyone
this summer!
Residential Assistants Residential Assistants live in the dorm and help with evening and weekend activities, but do not have classroom or tutoring responsibilities. All of them attended WTP when they were in high school.
I'm finishing an exciting and fruitful first year at
