I put together a 2-page summary of some ideas covered in PS #3 as a hand-out (distributed in class Oct. 5). It's available here, if you missed it:

All the problems in PS #3 cover some permutation of the same basic idea:

You have a PROPORTIONAL controller (C(s)=G) and some particular open-loop system.
You are asked to study the relationship between the value of 'G' and the pole locations (and thus the stability) of the resulting close-loop system.

(For PS #3, since the open-loop systems never went below -180 degrees of phase, you could safely remain stable with any positive-valued G.)

Problem 4.1 -- Set up your state equations...
Problem 4.1 -- ...and solve to get frequencies and relative amplitudes associated with the modes.
