This
section describes the procedure to use when you want to save either a picture
file or ASCII (text) file sent from your host and are not concerned with
100% error-free communication. |

There
is a four step process to saving a file sent from your host which you must
use to save files properly. |
1. Open
a filename on your personal computer (ALT-F)
2. Tell your host computer to send the file |
3. Start
accepting the data (ALT-1) |
4. Close
the file after the host is finished (ALT-Q) |
To save
a data file from the host, you must open a file to put the data in.
The open filename command (ALT-F) will cause a prompt to appear on line
25 of your screen requesting a filename. If you do not want to open a file,
enter <cr> to return to online mode. Enter a standard PC-DOS filename
as follows: |
b:picture.dat
file on drive b |
\graph.dat
file in root directory |
Enter
<cr> following the filename. If you have constructed the filename correctly,
a file will be opened on the disk specified and you will be ready to start
saving data with a single keystroke. |
Next,
you need to tell your host computer to send you the picture or text file.
The necessary command for a picture is the one that you would use to cause
your host-based graphics program to draw a picture on your terminal. For
ASCII (text) files, you should be able to send them to your microcomputer
with a command similar to: |
COPY <filename>
TT: |
where <filename>
is the name of the file on your host and TT: is the name of the terminal
in your host system |
As soon
as you have entered that command, Enter ALT-I from your keyboard. The message
< saving host data > will appear on line 25. Any data sent from the
host will be saved in your data file. |
If you
want to omit a portion of the data sent from your host while in filesave
mode, depress ALT-I again. The message < stop saving host data > will
appear on line 25. To start saving data again, depress ALT-I again. |
As soon
as the host has sent the complete picture or text, you must close the file
so that PC-DOS saves the final size in the directory of your disk. Close
the file with an ALT-Q command. If you neglect to close the file, the filename
will appear in the directory of your disk but the size will be zero or
incorrect. |
