7. Programmable Function Keys

7.0 Overview

PC-PLOT-IV will allow you to define programmable keys which can send a custom command string when depressed.

7.1 Setting up programmable function keys

Entering the ALT-K command to bring up the programmable key menu.

Commands: CURSOR UP/DOWN ALT-S Exit and Save ALT-Q Exit no Save End Key Entry with <cr> Control-C=AC -- replaces <cr> in string

The programmable keys are listed on the left side of the screen; SF8 is shift F8 and CF8 is control F8.

To save a command string in a function key, move the wide cursor up or down using the cursor arrow keys to the desired key name and type in the desired string of keys. End the command string with a <cr>. If you need to have a control code (control+letter key), precede the letter key with a carat ( ^ ). If you need a <cr> in your command string, put in the tilde character ( - ). To enter a PC-PLOT-IV ALT key in a key string, enter the string `X where (`) is the accent key and X is the ALT- key to use. for example, to put ALT-E in a key string, enter `E.

As soon as you have defined all of your command strings, enter an ALT-S command which will save your key definitions in the startup setup data file, PCPLOT.SET. Enter ALT-Q to exit without modifying the keyfile on your disk.

7.2 Using programmable function keys

Programmable function keys can be a real timesaver when logging on to your host or running programs on the host which require long, complicated commands.

Any time the terminal emulation is on line, you can depress shift-Fx or control Fx and the string saved for that key will be sent to your host computer ( x is a function key number 1-10).
