9. Modem command setup

9.0 Overview

This section describes how to change the command string that is sent to the modem when an autodial command is entered. This is necessary only if you are using a modem other than a Hayes Smartmodem (or compatible) or if you wish to customize the command sent to your smartmodem.

9.1 Setting up modem commands

In order to edit the command string sent to the modem, enter a ALT-V command from the keyboard. The following menu will appear:

End Key Entry with <cr> Control-C=AC

The first line is the command sent to the modem to cause it to dial. All commands for a Hayes Smartmodem are in upper case letters and preceded by an AT (except redial). The D in the command is for 'dial and the T in the command is for tone dialing. If you need to use pulse (rotary) dialing instead of tone, change the modem string to ATDP.

To enter a new command string, place the cursor on the desired line and type in the new command followed by <cr>.

The second line is the string sent to the modem when an ALT-5 (redial) command is entered from the keyboard. The third and fourth lines set and clear autoanswer mode.

The next line is the one sent when the HERE-IS key (ALT-1) is depressed or if the terminal receives an ENQ ( 05 hex) command from the host.

The next three lines in the menu set the character that will be sent when a button on a mouse is depressed. The mouse characters will only be sent when GIN mode is active. These key codes are application dependant and are pre-programmed to be an ASCII space.

The last selection is for UNIX systems that send only the <lf> char and expect the terminal to supply the <cr>.

When you have completed editing all of the entries in the modem setup screen, enter an ALT-S to save them. If you only want to view and exit, enter ALT-Q.
