How MIT Buildings Are Numbered—and Other Mysteries

The 205 buildings in MIT's academic portfolio comprise 13.9 million square feet, with 8.3 million sq. ft. devoted to academic purposes and 3.3 million sq. ft. to residences. That's just the beginning of the detail about MIT structures that the Department of Facilities updates every day.

The Space Accounting database contains vital information that Facilities monitors to track space usage on campus. The information also helps academic and administrative departments with their space change requests.
