Summary

In 2014, there will be two Origami conventions in Tokyo in August:

For 6OSME participants there is an (optional) bus tour around Tokyo on Thursday, August 14th. For 6OSME/Tanteidan participants, there is a one-day bus trip down to the Shizuoka/Mt. Fuji area on Monday, August 18th. Details below.

The Korean Origami Association (http://www.origami.or.kr) will hold their convention, in Seoul, South Korea, the weekend following Origami Tanteidan (August 23/24.) As long as you're in Asia, you should consider coming to this convention as well! Space is extremely limited, so please let us know immediately if you're considering attending. (NB: If you read/speak Korean, you can contact the organizers directly via their website.)

6OSME

The 6th International Meeting on Origami in Science, Mathematics and Education (6OSME) will be held at the University of Tokyo, from Aug. 10 to Aug. 13. The 6OSME aims at providing a platform for researchers, educators, artists, and the community to share and discuss research on Origami in science, mathematics, education, technology and art.

The 6OSME website will be kept updated (in English) with all the latest information. Online registration for the conference is open, and early registration (with a discount) is offered through June 30, 2014. You can register for both conventions at the same time through the above registration link, as well as the post-conference bus tour.

20th Origami Tanteidan Convention

This year marks the 20th Tanteidan Convention, and it's sure to be a really great event. This year will include a special lecture from Erik Demaine from MIT, and Alessandro Beber, the Yoshino Fund invited guest. Events and features include:

  • Special lectures
  • About 100 classes from simple to complex
  • A bunch of origami paper and other souvenirs
  • Convention Book vol.20 (optional)
  • Reception dinner (optional, JPY 5,000)
  • Exhibition by participants
  • 8th JOAS Origami Competition (Exhibition and voting: see details)
  • Origami auction
  • Excursion after convention (optional; limited space, for convention attendees only)

As of 17 June, 2014, you can register for both 6OSME and Origami Tanteidan at the same time on the 6OSME website; you cannot yet register online for just the Tanteidan convention. If you're interested in attending just the Tanteidan Convention, please contact us.

The post-convention excursion (for convention participants only) will be a day trip by bus to the Shizuoka area featuring a Yoshizawa exhibition at Sano Art Museum and a museum of Tokushu Tokai Paper. Lunch will be a buffet at Gotemba Kogen Resort. The cost (including transportation, admission to the museums, and lunch) will be 6,000-8,000 yen (subject to change according to the size of our group). Please contact us right away if you wish to attend; space is limited.

Korea Origami Association (Korea Jongie Jupgi Association)

The 5th Korea Origami convention will be held on Saturday, August 23 and Sunday, August 24 in Seoul, South Korea. Modeled directly on the Tanteidan/OrigamiUSA convention structure, it is easy to navigate for anyone familair with those conventions. Travel to/from the convention will be on your own, but there is convenient bus service from the airport to the convention site. Many of the visitors attending all the conventions will travel to Korea from Tokyo on Friday (22nd), and we recommend arriving no later than Friday night in Seould, but otherwise the time between is your own to use for Japan or Korea travel.

Notice of the 5th Korea Convention: http://www.origami.or.kr/culture/noticeBoard.asp?section=view&seq=2506&page=1&idx=culture_notice (in Korean)

Space (especially housing space) is extremely limited. If you do not read or speak Korean, and are interested in attending, please contact us immediately!
