Works in Progress Though the work of the task group is not to do the paving or installation of bike racks or street signs, we look for and accept projects from concerned MIT community members. Please see the about us page, for more information about our mission. Here are our current projects. Bicycle commuters shared a need for shower facilities at MIT. We are assessing existing accessibility and safety factors associated with a list of shower facilties. A representative of our subcommittee attends annual meetings to discuss campus parking and transportation issues. Over the Summer, we met with Seth Riney of PlanetTran to learn about his company's environmentally cleaner shuttle service to a local destination or airports (Boston, MA; Providence, RI; Bedford, MA; Manchester, NH). As a result, persons holding a valid MIT id receive a 15% discount-- current students receive 25%--off of predetermined rates for travel within the Greater Boston area. Read about a task group member's experiences. We have contacted key departments (Parking and transportation Office, Travel and Procurement) to promote the PlanetTran discount, and to investigate the potential for a vendor partner relationship. Mr. Riney will be attending the Fall Transportation Fair on September 30, 2004. Our task group will meet with Therese Henderson and select others to advance the interest and recognition of a salary-based model for determining parking fees.
