Pianist Sally VanderPloeg

Accompanist Sally VanderPloeg is a pianist, foodie and passionate community member. She began playing the piano at age five and continued her studies through high school with Joan Conway. She received her Bachelors of Music in Piano Performance and graduated summa cum laude from Hope College in Holland, MI, where she studied under Dr. Andrew Le. During her time at Hope, VanderPloeg was honored to perform two concertos with the Hope College Symphony. She was also an active accompanist in both vocal and instrumental studios and received a number of honors and awards from the music division.

After graduating from Hope, VanderPloeg worked as a staff accompanist and adjunct professor of group piano at her alma mater. She was also the choir director at Pillar Church and served as assistant manager at Butch’s Dry Dock.

VanderPloeg recently completed her Master’s Degree in Collaborative Piano at The Boston Conservatory under the direction of Dr. Karl Paulnack. She is well versed in both instrumental and vocal repertoire and frequently performs with instrumentalists and singers of all types. She also works as a vocal studio pianist and rehearsal pianist for The Boston Conservatory’s opera department. This fall, she will be playing for Janacek’s Cunning Little Vixen after having played for their recent productions of Don Giovanni, Conrad Susa’s Transformations, and La Bohéme. This past summer, she participated in the 2013 International Performing Arts Institute in Germany. VanderPloeg also works privately as a vocal coach and is the music director at Wollaston Congregational Church in Quincy, MA and the choral accompanist at MIT in Cambridge, MA.
