Email in hand, I was ready to find Jenn's dorm, find a way in the front door, and get my way to her room.

ok. you arrivein the train station.

Done.

you want to walk out of the door in the train station that is NOT toward the state house. i think it may say downtown over it.

There was an archway that said "Downtown" over it, and I took it. [This was the right choice.]

and you walk straight. well, veer a little so you don't hit trees and such, but go straight.

Immediately in front of the archway was a small platform of stairs, a road to cross, and then a collection of condos and office spaces. The road made a small oval uphill to the train station around these condos. I couldn't go straight. It was ridiculous to think about going straight. To the left the was a small river and some small houses; to the right there were tall buildings. I took went right down the hill, and guessed that meant "straight". [I should have gone left.]

you should pass a parking lot on your right right before you hit a big street. you walk across the street and go right down it.

I saw all these things within a few blocks, but, then again, it's pretty hard not to see these things within a few blocks.

you should see a big ass parking lot on your left. you will also see the back of sh-booms.

There was no Sh-Boom's in sight, and a few parking lots on many sides. Walking to my left toward one, I saw a club called Sh-Boom's off in the distance, its back to a small ass parking lot. I crossed a few more streets and made my way to the parking lot, crossing the river on the way. Why hadn't the directions mentioned the landmark of going over a bridge? I knew I should've gone left!

so walk across this parking lot to the corner. (corner of north/south main st. and angell st.) go up angell street until you come to the next cross street- benefit st.

There were no street signs. I couldn't tell whether Angell Street or Main Street went uphill. "Go up Angell Street" could have meant "Keep going along Angell Street". Neither street looked very main. I also couldn't tell if I crossed along the right diagonal in the right way, since I'd come to this big ass parking lot in such an unusual way. So, I went forward alongside the hill, not uphill, toward what looked like schoolbuildings, brick with metal add-ons. [I should've gone uphill.] I kept walking until I found the RISD Store, a place where I knew I could find someone who could give directions.

go left on benefit

Fortunately, the student who feared she wouldn't be helpful knew exactly where Benefit Street was; it was the first street you come to when you go uphill. Once I got to it, I had no idea what cross street I was on, whether I should turn right or left.

and you should see a whiteish hose on your right pretty immediately.

I'd been joking that a big white hose would be pretty easy to spot, but I didn't see one. Instead I had to look for a white house, and there was one both to my left and to my right. I chose to go to the left. [Right choice.] I walked up the front steps to the first white house I saw.

this is where i live. i'll draw you a map even with "places of interest" on it ok?? you can't possibly get lost.
