CAC Facilities

Ray and Maria Stata Center (32)

This icon of architecture on MIT's campus was designed by Frank Gehry and brings together the three triads of MIT education — teaching, research and community. It is an exciting environment with the academic and research labs of CSAIL, LIDS, and the Department of Linguistics and Philosophy combined with the Faculty Lunch Program and the R&D Pub located in the towers of the center. The focal point of the facility is the Charles Vest Student Street with it's featured promotion and display boards, student and community activity booths, and benches and café seating meant to foster informal interactions and conversation. Its services include the Forbes Family Café, recreation space, Campus Information, ATM's, and displays of art. The Center provides unique outdoor gathering spaces including the Dertouzos Amphitheater.

As extensive as space is in the center, event facilities are primarily limited to the five classrooms located on the Charles Vest Student Street. These facilities are comprised of the Kirsch Auditorium (325 & 350 seats / 32-123), two flat classrooms (60 seats each / 32-124 and 32-144), and two tiered classrooms (90 seats each / 32-141 and 32-155). As classrooms, these spaces are assigned for teaching Monday through Friday throughout the year; no music can be played in areas adjacent to these classrooms. During the evening, on weekends, the classrooms may be scheduled through the Schedules Office for use by student activities as well as departments, labs and centers for conference, seminars, and social programming. Once a request has been reviewed and approved by the Schedules Office, event support is available through CAC. To request this support, fill out the form found here: http://studentlife.mit.edu/cac/resources-forms/cac-event-support-request-non-cac-space-new.

The R&D Common on the 4th Floor is scheduled through CSAIL, events@csail.mit.edu. During the academic year during the weekdays, it is used for the Faculty Lunch Program. Once you have reserved the Common, event support is available through CAC. Reservations for the R&D Pub are made through Bon Appetit.

The Amphitheater, Forbes Café, TSMC Lobby, and other Charles Vest Student Street public areas are booked through the Campus Activities Complex. Alcohol can only be served on weekends (Friday evenings, Saturday, and Sunday) during the academic year on the 1st floor.
