Musée Carnavalet

The Carnavalet Museum is situated in the beautiful “hôtel” (an aristocratic residence from the XVIIth century) of Madame de Sévigné, a woman known for the letters she wrote documenting the lives of the famous people of the time. Through the entrance, in the courtyard, a statue of Louis XIV (the only one in bronze that survived the French Revolution of 1789) greets the visitors. We went through the museum, exploring the history of Paris. With the helpful explanations of our guide, we learned about the difference between Italian and French ceilings, the St. Bartholomew’s Day Massacre in 1572, the myth about the miraculous escape of Louis XVII from his prison, and how the French Revolution created the metric system.
