Cleaning Requests during COVID-19
In preparation for COVID-19, our custodial staff have received enhanced training in cleaning and disinfecting touch points and have switched to a disinfecting cleaning solution, Morning Mist. This disinfectant meets the EPA’s criteria for use against SARS-CoV-2. Note that the custodial staff do not clean computer keyboards or mice, which should be wiped clean by the computer user. In addition, custodial staff are instructed not to move items on a desk — so the more items a user removes from a desktop, the more surface area will be cleaned.

As always, additional cleaning services can be requested following the instructions below. Please note that special decontamination procedures are only required for spaces occupied by individuals who are suspected of having COVID-19 (i.e., are being tested and/or awaiting results) or have been confirmed as positive. In the absence of a suspected/confirmed COVID-19 case, routine disinfection procedures are sufficient.

The Custodial Services group works to maintain a high level of cleanliness throughout MIT to support a comfortable learning environment. Custodians work round-the-clock shifts to minimize inconvenience while providing efficient, services to classrooms, labs, offices, and public spaces. Each team's mission is to treat customers in a courteous, professional manner and to provide timely responses to special requests and emergencies.

Order Services

To order cleaning services go to Service Requests in Atlas. Below is a list of some of the services available. There is no charge for our Basic Services, but there is for our Special Services, so be sure you have a Cost Object you can use to order these services.

Basic Services

  • Cleaning classrooms, labs, offices
  • Cleaning entrances, lobbies, restrooms, and corridors
  • Remove trash and recycling waste
  • Emergency responses to bad weather or accidents

Special Services (Requires a Fee)

MIT's Custodial Services does not provide services to non-facilities buildings such as dormitories and some leased properties such as Draper Lab, Technology Square, Whitehead and Broad Institute.
