Team American
chose a flip-top glasses case as the concealed device for the clue scanner.

There are
several key design aspects of the scanner:
Packaging:
The outer form of the scanner: what the scanner looked like and its approximate
size.
Opening
Mechanism :
The mechanism behind how the two end caps of the flip-top glasses case
"pop" open.
RFID:
The technology used to "scan" the clue.
Symbols:
Instructions and user feedback on how the device works and what it is
doing.
Lighting:
A beam of light analogous to copy machines and real life scanners that
gives the illustion of scanning.
Electronics:
The guts of the device.
CAD:
How everything was crammed together into 175mm x 65mm x 45mm enclosure.
