Keeping MIT Running Efficiently

The Repair & Maintenance service area keeps MIT’s building mechanical and structural systems working efficiently and reliably. Most repairs and maintenance are provided by three Campus Services Teams and ten central teams.

Order Services

To order services from Custodial Services, Grounds Services or Repair & Maintenance, use the Building Services tab in SAPweb. Below is a list of some of the services available. There is no charge for our Basic Services, but there is for our Special Services, so be sure you have a Cost Object you can use to order these services.

Basic Services

The list below contains some of the basic services that our teams provide to customers in MIT owned buildings. In order to request a service, click on the "Buildings" link under Repairs that is located on the Building Services tab in SAPweb. Be sure to write down the Work Order number. You’ll need it later for any questions you may have about the work request. There is no charge for repairs or adjustments to building systems such as:

  • Lights, shades and windows
  • Domestic water, process water and drainage systems
  • Blackboards, doors, elevators, floors, ceilings
  • Roofs
  • Lab fume hoods
  • Building clocks
  • Electrical, piping, mechanical or structural systems
  • HVAC systems
  • Piping systems
  • Other repairs as needed

Special Services

Although Facilities does not charge MIT customers for building repairs, there may be a cost associated with other services including installation and upgrades. To request an installation or other service that requires a fee, go to the Building Services tab in SAPweb. Check the "Request an Estimate" box if you would like to speak to someone about charges before the work begins. Once your requisition is received by Facilities, someone will contact you to give you a quote for the work you have requested. Some services that you may need to pay for include:

  • Major and minor renovations
  • Electrical upgrades and installations
  • Office painting and furniture repair
  • Install cabinets, countertops, shelves, coat hooks
  • Relocate, remove, or hang wall fixtures
  • Other services as needed

To learn which Campus Services Team handles your building, check out the map. Or take a look at the R&M web page. If your building is not serviced by R&M, it may be on this list. Consult with your building or house manager for assistance.

Request a Service

When filling out the Building Services Form, remember to write down the Work Order number in case you need to refer to it later.
