NSE graduate student Sara Hauptman, won the Best Student Presentation Award at the European Research Reactor Conference (RRFM) this year. She received the award for her poster, entitled “Exploring MITR-III Alternative Reactivity Control Systems to Eliminate Axial Flux Skewing”.
The poster focused on a subset of Hauptman's work investigating the suitability of different reactor control geometries as part of the overall design effort for MITR-III. She assessed mechanisms proposed by space reactors, microreactors, as well as completely novel designs. The goal of this body of work is to improve the performance of future in-core experiment facilities.
Each year the award recognizes outstanding research nuclear technology innovation.
