Areg Danagoulian, associate professor of Nuclear Science and Engineering, has been named a fellow of the American Physical Society (APS). Nominated by the American Physical Society Forum on Physics and Society (FPS), Danagoulian was cited, “for seminal technological contributions in the field of arms control and cargo security, which significantly benefit international security.”
His current research interests focus on nuclear physics applications in societal problems, such as nuclear nonproliferation, technologies for arms control treaty verification, nuclear safeguards, and cargo security. Danagoulian also serves as the faculty co-director for MIT’s MISTI Eurasia program.
The APS fellowship is a distinct honor signifying recognition by one’s professional peers for exceptional contributions to the physics enterprise. Election to Fellowship in the APS is limited to no more than half a percent of the membership. Danagoulian is one of four MIT faculty members appointed this year. A list of the 2024 APS Fellows and citations can be found on the APS website.
